REAL HISTORY: Poland is portrayed by palace writers as the innocent victim of ‘Nazi Germany’s insatiable desire for lebensraum’. Not mentioned is that until Germany’s retaliation early in September 1939 Poland was internationally condemned as a pugnacious troublemaker.
Poland between 1920 and 1939 had engaged in multiple skirmishes against most of its neighbours, the Polish invasion of Checkoslovakia being just one of them. These outrages included terrorising and ethnically cleansing ethnic Germans of Silesia whose territory was under Polish occupation in defiance of international law.
Poland’s racist infamies and cruelties against ethnic minorities were so horrific that even the architects of the infamous Versailles Treaty were embarrassed by Poland’s cruel pogroms against its 1,500,000 German nationals.
In an orgy of ethnic cleansing, German civilians were dragged from their homes, beaten or stoned to death. International Red Cross (IRS) put the figure at 3,000 dead over a 20 year period from 1919.
Many murders and massacres went unrecordered and unrecognised. For Germans living under Polish occupation life and death was casual, brutal and their suffering and martyrdom was similar to the outrages endured by ethnic Europeans in Black South Africa today.
The victims were civilians, many of them children. In 1939 alone over 500 German minorities were massacred by Poles. Jews too were persecuted with thousands of Jews later fleeing to Hitler’s Germany for refuge.
As a matter of pragmatic mutual defence the Soviet Union remained an ally of Hitler’s Reich for 22-months after the outbreak of war on September 1, 1939.
The German leader’s defensive strategy exposed the media to excessive falsehood. Here were two political systems that in their view were good (Josef Stalin) and one bad (Adolf Hitler) whose strategies called for hypocritical explanations. As far as mainstream media was concerned, Soviet butcher Joe Stalin could do no wrong whilst the German leader could do no right.
One of the best-kept secrets of World War II is that, encouraged to do so by Britain, Poland was first to mobilise its forces with the intention of attacking and overrunning the Workers Reich. Why? Westminster wanted Hitler out of the way and was prepared to fight to the last Pole to achieve their aim.
Epic fail! Before Germany’s retaliation in response to Polish attacks on its borders, Polish Marshall Rydz Smigly commissioned a painting of himself on a charger prancing through Berlin after it had been destroyed by Polish armed forces.
Encouraged by Britain, and in defiance of the Versailles Treaty, Poland placed a blockade on the German City of Danzig and the Corridor upon which its inhabitants depended. The aim was to starve the beleaguered German city into submission.
Throughout this period, there had been many armed incursions on German territory by Polish armed forces and at the same time agreements were cast aside and talks were refused. In fact, Glweiwitz (August 30, 1939) was just one and the most serious of 29 Polish invasions of German territory.
Prime Minister Chamberlain told the House of Commons that the Soviet invasion of Poland on September 17, 1939, was ‘an act of self-defence’. This will have surprised a few considering that Poland had never acted aggressively towards Bolshevik Occupied Russia.
However, when two weeks earlier the Workers Reich had retaliated against multiple frontiers attacks the same premier impudently informed parliament that Germany was the aggressor.
Another media myth is that the armed forces of Hitler’s Germany was far superior to those of ‘innocent peace-loving Poland’. The indisputable recorded facts tell another story.
Poland’s belligerency rested on its formidable means of waging a war that far exceeded that of their German neighbours. Since the armistice of World War I, Poland had created a one million man army that in 1939 was larger than the British Empire’s armed forces.
Poland boasted thirty fully modernized infantry divisions backed up by a National Defence of 100,000 National Reservists. The Cavendish Encyclopaedia described Poland’s army as ‘one of the largest in the world’.
The Polish infantry was supported by an armoured brigade of 300 tanks. This puts the lie to the myth that theirs was an operatic cavalry defence force.
The Poles did, of course, have 37 horse regiments as did other nations including Britain and the USA. Britain had a camel corp. In 1939 over 50% of the German military defence forces were horse-drawn.
The Poles operated a modern navy of five submarines, four destroyers, six minesweepers and a minelayer. Poland’s navy continued to fight long after their capital fell in October 1939. Over six months after the outbreak of war, on April 8, 1940, the German transport Rio de Janeiro was sunk in the Baltic by the Polish submarine Orzel.
The Poles had an air fleet of over 1,000 aircraft. These included long-range medium bombers (designed strictly for the purpose of aggressive warfare). The advanced P.37 Elk medium bomber was noticeably faster than its German counterpart the Heinkel HE 111H-16. The premier fighter of the Polish Air Force was the nimble PZL P.11.
This fighter plane was more than a formidable adversary against its German equivalent. The downing of 285 Luftwaffe aircraft during the brief campaign is testimony to Poland’s military airborne abilities.
The media’s narrative ignores the fact that Poland before the outbreak of war illegally besieged the free German city of Danzig, was ethnically-cleansing Germans living on territory illegally occupied by Poland whilst simultaneously threatening the Workers Reich.
Whilst some of Germany’s superior military achievements are highlighted, what isn’t mentioned is that unlike Poland, with just the one border to defend, the German nation needed to simultaneously protect its western borders from France and Britain whilst keeping an awareness of the threat posed by the Red Army that had recently invaded Finland and Poland.
The Poles were under the illusion that British and French forces would, as promised, come to their aid. Britain did not. French enthusiasm did not go beyond talking a good fight whilst England overlooked sending the promised hardware.
